Waste Recycling

Managing waste involves implementing strategies to minimize, handle, treat, and dispose of waste materials in a manner that is environmentally responsible and sustainable. Here are some key aspects of waste management that Live in Green draws attention to:

Reuse: in Kyaka II refugee settlement and some host communities we are running projects, we recycle biodegradable wastes by carbonizing them which are crucial in making of briquettes. This process is one of the ways we help mitigate the felling of trees for charcoal by offering an alternative cooking option to families.

In the processing of collecting biodegradable waste, we compost the organic waste from food scraps and other decomposing materials which help us make manure from the sorted waste to produce nutrient-rich soil amendments. Compositing not only reduces the volume of waste sent to dumpsites, it contributes to soil health which is a natural conservative way of restoration of soils destroyed or under threat by chemical fertilizers.

By adopting a holistic approach that incorporates these strategies, LIVE IN GREEN communities is participating in an effective way of managing waste while minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainability in Kyaka II refugee settlement and surrounding host communities.
