Stalight Parents School

Starlight Parents school is both Early Child Development Centre (ECD) and Primary school established to provide quality education to urban refugee children, Orphans, Un-companied minors, HIV+ and Street Children. Located in Makindye Division, Kampala Uganda, the school is currently supporting over 130 children.

Kampala hosts over 149,302 refugees and at least 21% (31,353) of the total refugee population are children aged 5 – 17 years. Although Humanitarian organizations in Uganda have worked hard to improve access to education for refugee children in Uganda, these opportunities mainly target refugees living in the settlements. Numerous primary, secondary and vocational schools have been established in refugee settlements targeting refugee and host community children unfortunately there is limited/no any single school in Urban (Kampala) that has been established to support urban refugees. This has contributed to low or no school attendance for urban refugee children. This Limited access to Education by Urban Refugee Children is as a result of their parents being poor hence unable to support their education.
