Clean Energy Access For All

A day in the life of a Refugee is one brings tears due to the cooking means used to prepare a meal after fleeing what was home due to violence and upheaval. The story is common amongst Refugees who reside in Kyaka II Refugee settlement hosting over 130,000 refugees from Democratic Republic of Congo seeking shelter from the political instability backed by wars in Eastern Congo. The daily cooking routine for over 31,000 households in the settlement require at least 1.6kg of firewood per family compared to the Ugandan host community which consume about 2.1kg according to 2023 report by UNHCR on Livelihood and Sustainability

LIVE IN GREEN helps to increase refugee and host communities’ access to affordable, reliable and clean energy and decreasing reliance on biomass (Fire-wood & Charcoal), and increasing awareness and adoption of clean energy solutions. Briquettes are produced from wastes (Biodegradables) collected from trading Centres and households within the settlement. The briquettes are more sustainable and more energy-efficient and help to reduce the pressure on forests and lower pollution levels in areas, since more people are starting using them. LIVE IN GREEN manufactures different types of eco-stoves and solar pressure cookers to meet the energy need of different categories of people in the area.
